That statement “I’m a vegetarian!” – it greets me with an absurdity I do not quite understand because as much I’m an animal lover there is a thing called a natural order of things. Tigers will prey on reindeers because its the animal’s natural instinct to do so but just because you love and cherish antlers doesn’t mean you should step right in and convert tigers to vegetarianism. Quinoa, is an often misunderstood crop. A grain crop, a form of goosefoot, its well-liked because its an edible seed, high in protein, and cultivated in Latin America, primarily in the Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru region.
Its speedy to prepare, Kosher for Passover, which makes it a favourite amongst the Jewish community in Britain, and is a staple food in the plates of many South Americans. Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow have chosen this nutty-flavoured grain, which is lending it some credibility as a well-placed diet option and also garnering a familiarity-of-sorts amongst the public. The recent trend has seen white rice, cous cous, corn as the preferred gluten-free choice for consumers interested in keeping their meals strictly healthy, so there needs to be a greater variety here because as much as I love my white rice, Mediterranean flavoured cous sous with steamed vegetables, and corn-on-the-cob, I doubt everybody would love to eat it for dinner everyday.
Enter Quinoa: it contains all eight of the essential amino acids, is packed with dietary fibre, lysine (helps with tissue growth), iron, magnesium, vitamin E, potassium, and is easy to digest. It has a fluffy texture, and if you feel that its too healthy for you, then spice it up with some heat, which you can get aplenty from Madras curry powder. You can even eat the leaves for quinoa, so its really the ideal substitute for all your dieting dilemmas that involve having to eat more of that darn baked tomato, once more!
I have to be honest here, I don’t quite understand how not having a chicken burger would help with your health. Sure you stop being a carnivore the moment you no longer choose to eat meat, but is it just chicken nuggets that have a life, and not apples and beetroots? You know it isn’t! I often see campaigns on the street from PETA UK and I do not understand their objectives really. You say your pro-life for chickens, but you endorse what? Uprooting a lemon tree to appetite your cravings for a lemonade in the summer heat? I support their very special and worthy endeavors such as preventing anyone from practicing cruelty to animals, banning animal testing, and saving chickens on farms and horses in stables, but vegetarianism in my opinion does not benefit turkeys.
When you spot mice on steads, do you runway in terror? I like mice actually. I happened to spot a mice today while on my way to grab some breakfast! The fact of the matter is that if you really want to promote vegetarianism and your love for quinoa, it is optimal to do so with clarity at first – that vegetarianism is a lifestyle choice for you, your not doing any favours to the animal kingdom by eating all of their courgettes, peppers, peas, mushrooms, pumpkins and rocket salad!
